BUDDY LEE
Buddy Lee was first introduced as an advertising doll by Lee Company in 1922 , initially for promotional purposes. The name came from a naming solicitation ad published in the Saturday Evening Post on December 27, 1919 , and was later formalized and became part of the display case of Dayton 's in Minneapolis, Minnesota .
Although initially used only for promotional purposes, it was so popular that it was commercialized until it was discontinued in 1962 .
This doll is about 30 cm tall and is commonly seen wearing overalls , dungaree or Lee Riders 101 series. In addition, there are special models wearing uniforms of well-known companies such as Coca-Cola and Shell , with a wide variety of styles.
The original Buddy Lee figure was called the "Cowboy / Engineer" model and came in two styles. Before 1948 , the material used was a " synthetic material " (Composition) made of a mixture of sawdust and paper . However, since this material was relatively fragile, it was changed to plastic after 1949 to improve durability.
Because early synthetic material versions are easily damaged and their extant numbers are extremely rare, they are more collectible than later plastic versions. In addition to their cute shapes, Buddy Lee's clothing uses the same high-quality fabrics as Lee products and has exquisite craftsmanship, which is one of the reasons why it is still so popular today.
